The Power of Pizza: How I Built My Business with Cheese, Cardboard, and a Smile

I don’t like to eat pizza.

It gives me heartburn.

But pizza is still my favorite food—because it helped build my business.

When I started All Nation Restoration in Austin, Texas, I was living in a 26-foot camper. Not alone—with two other guys who worked for me. There was no room. No comfort. No luxury. But there was drive. And pizza.

When You Can’t Buy a Marketing Team…

Starting a water damage remediation business in Austin—one of the most competitive, saturated, cutthroat restoration markets in the country—is not for the faint of heart. I didn’t have a marketing agency. I didn’t have SEO rankings. I didn’t even have the time to build a website—let alone the money to pay someone else to do it.

What I did have?

Dominos.

That $5.99 two-topping carryout deal? That was my ad campaign. My cold call. My lead gen. My customer appreciation.

I’ve spent more money on pizza than anyone I know. And I don’t even eat it.

There’s something powerful—disarming—about showing up unannounced with a couple of hot pizzas and a big smile.

No hard pitch. No sales script. Just warm food, handed off quickly, with no strings attached.

I’ve walked into insurance offices, property management companies, hardware stores, and apartment leasing offices with pizza in hand. I don’t stay to eat. I don’t make it weird. I just smile, say thanks, and leave.

And you know what happens?

They remember me.

They call when they need help. They refer clients. They introduce me to their network.

All because of the Power of Pizza.

The Day I Became a Legend at Home Depot

One day, I took it to another level.

I ordered over 100 pizzas at once. I loaded them onto a Home Depot cart—yes, the kind meant for hauling lumber. And for full dramatic effect, I used a ratchet strap—the kind used to secure cargo on a semi-truck—to tie them down.

Three massive stacks of pizza.

One absurd, unforgettable delivery.

I rolled them through the lumber entrance and shouted,

“Have a great day, everybody!”

To this day, I’m still known as “the pizza guy” at that Home Depot. And I can’t even count how many deals, discounts, and favors that little stunt opened up for me over the years.

Now when I want to open a new door, make a connection, or just show some love to someone who’s helped me—I think with my pizza brain.

Not catering. Not Mexican takeout. Not cookies.

Pizza. Always pizza.

If you’re stuck, if you don’t know what your next move in business should be, if the doors feel locked—order two large pies, smile, and drop them off like a hero. Don’t stay. Don’t sell. Just give.

The Power of Pizza will do the rest!

Stay strong.

Stay focused.

Stay in business.

And when in doubt… bring pizza.
